Hamantaschen are triangular cookies with filling in the center that is traditionally baked for Purim. The exact origin of this cookie is unknown, though there are lots of suggestions. You can see different theories in a Time Magazine article here. But two things are clear – Hamman is the name of the villain in the story, and taschen is the Yiddish word for pockets.
